1
Английский язык · Use of English: grammar and vocabulary · уровень A

Choose the correct form for a formal written answer: 'If I ___ you, I would apologise to her at once.'

  1. A)were
  2. B)am
  3. C)will be
  4. D)had been
Ответ и разбор
Правильный ответ: A

This is a second conditional giving advice about an unreal present situation, so the if-clause takes the past form, and 'were' is the standard form in formal English. 'Am' and 'will be' do not express unreality, and 'had been' refers to the past.

2
Английский язык · Reading: curriculum topics (units) · уровень B

Read the text and answer the question. The farm near Shchuchinsk tries to work in a sustainable way. Instead of using strong chemicals, the farmer protects his crops by planting rows of flowers that attract insects which eat pests. He changes the crops in each field every year, so that the soil does not become exhausted, and he collects rainwater in large tanks for dry periods. 'My grandfather farmed this land, and I want my grandchildren to farm it too,' he says. 'I can only take from the land what it can give back.' What does the word 'sustainable' mean in the text?

  1. A)using modern machines and strong chemicals
  2. B)able to continue for a long time without harming nature
  3. C)producing the largest possible harvest every year
  4. D)owned by the same family for many generations
Ответ и разбор
Правильный ответ: B

The farmer avoids harmful chemicals, rotates crops to keep the soil healthy and saves water so that the land can be farmed by future generations — 'sustainable' means able to continue long term without harming nature. Family ownership is mentioned, but it is not the meaning of the word.

3
Английский язык · Teaching methodology: learning objectives, assessment, skills · уровень B

In a mixed-ability class, which task best shows differentiation by support while keeping the same learning objective for everyone?

  1. A)Stronger learners leave early, while weaker learners finish the task
  2. B)Weaker learners only copy the model email from the board
  3. C)Everyone writes the same email; weaker learners get a frame with useful phrases
  4. D)Everyone does the same task without help so that the results are fair
Ответ и разбор
Правильный ответ: C

Differentiation by support keeps the same task and objective but gives some learners scaffolding, such as a writing frame or useful phrases. Giving no help ignores different needs, and copying from the board removes the objective of writing an email.

4
Английский язык · Use of English: grammar and vocabulary · уровень C

Asel failed the test because she had not revised. Which comment by the teacher criticises this past action correctly?

  1. A)'You could revise more carefully.'
  2. B)'You needn't have revised so carefully.'
  3. C)'You should have revised more carefully.'
  4. D)'You must have revised more carefully.'
Ответ и разбор
Правильный ответ: C

Criticism of a past action that did not happen is expressed by 'should have + past participle'. 'Must have revised' is a deduction (and contradicts the facts), 'could revise' is a suggestion about the present or future, and 'needn't have revised' means the revision was unnecessary.

5
Английский язык · Reading: curriculum topics (units) · уровень B

Read the text and answer the question. During an independent project, many teachers ask students to keep a learning journal. In it, students write down not only what they have done each week, but also what went wrong, what they learned from their mistakes and what they plan to do next. Teachers say the journal helps them see how a student thinks, not just the final product. Students often find it annoying at first, but many later admit that reading their early entries showed them how much they had improved during the project. What is the main idea of the text?

  1. A)Students always enjoy writing journals from the start.
  2. B)Teachers are interested only in the final product of a project.
  3. C)A journal helps students and teachers follow the learning process.
  4. D)Journals should describe only successful parts of a project.
Ответ и разбор
Правильный ответ: C

The text explains that a learning journal records progress, mistakes and plans, helping teachers see students' thinking and students see their own improvement. Teachers look beyond the final product, students often dislike it at first, and mistakes are part of the journal.
